Cannon towers, a front door for the playtest and fairer starts

The playtest has a front door now, fire has a new home, and the strong no longer run away with the round.

  • Sign in to play: sign in on the website, and if you are not unlocked yet you land on the waitlist. The shared access code is gone. Every player gets a profile under /me
  • Cannon tower: a new war building with a bronze mortar. It costs 250 gold, you can have two, and only from here does the wildfire bomb fly. A tower that falls to the enemy turns into a ruin
  • The wildfire bomb splits: one fire lands where you aim and four more somewhere in the realm. Each fire spreads as a ring, the flames walk outwards and the land behind them is left charred
  • Put fires out: send a blue wave onto your burning land and the flames go out in a cloud of steam
  • Buildings come in bigger steps: each one costs more and does more, so a few well placed buildings matter more than many small ones
  • The biggest realm no longer snowballs as easily, and the first fortress falls less often in the first minutes: the grace period at the start is longer
  • The front line and the preview area of your wave are smooth, without loops and hooks. Borders around thin strips of land are calmer
  • The building tiles show only their key in the corner

Knights at the front, a new title screen and room for 200

Two busy days. Fights at the front look like fights now, the game greets you with a living globe, and a world holds up to 200 players.

  • Knights at the front: where your wave takes land from another player, small knights clash and fall. Spreading into free land still shows the arrows
  • A coloured line runs along the front of your wave: green while it pushes forward, yellow when it slows down, red when it bounces off. Before you click, a soft area shows roughly how much land the wave will take. The old "Fair attack" signs are gone
  • A number above every fortress you can see shows how many points that player keeps in store
  • A wave only attacks the realm you click on. Neighbours that touch the same border stay out of it
  • Rotate buildings while placing them: hold the left button and drag, let go to build. E turns a building by 45 degrees, right click cancels
  • New title screen with a slowly turning diorama globe. Choose the game mode and enter your name in the box under the logo, then Start Game. The tutorial teaches the first steps, Leave Game takes you back to the website
  • The access code is entered on the website only, then you land straight on the title screen
  • Clouds lie on the edge of the globe and the world disappears behind them
  • Up to 200 players per world. Worlds can have a grace period at the start in which nobody can attack, and the time limit can be switched off
  • The results table shows the top 10 and your own place
  • Much smoother with many players: no more black screen when the picture quality changes, far less work for the graphics card, buildings behind the globe are no longer drawn. Firefox stays smooth late in big rounds

Ships, the volcano and a new face

The biggest build so far. The world has real models and painted ground now, there is a volcano to fight over, and the game has sound.

  • Harbour and ships: a harbour on your coast sends transports to land beyond the sea, and a warship guards the water around it
  • One volcano island in every world, a great cone of dark basalt with a fire crystal floating over its crater. Whoever holds the crystal strengthens his whole realm. The volcano erupts again and again, and its lava burns the land on the slope
  • Real models for every building and place, for riders, carts and ships; painted ground with relief, grass, stones and sandy beaches
  • A new, dark interface with copper edges: big tiles for the building groups and the abilities, a bigger map, the legend behind one key
  • The waiting room shows the three realms with the players in each of them
  • Sound and music. The settings have three cards: Picture, Sound with two sliders, and Controls, where you can give every action another key
  • The Defence group lists Rampart, Guard tower and Watchtower in that order

Team and turn

Allies matter more now, and there are two new ways to turn a round around.

  • Allies whose land touches yours add to your points and your gold
  • Waves flow through the land of allies and come out on the far side
  • The rampart works like a ditch now: an enemy wave loses part of its points inside its circle
  • New abilities for gold: Hire army and Wildfire
  • Riders stay inside their own realm and go around mountains

The fast round

Rounds are short now, and a fortress matters.

  • A round ends after 10 minutes, or at once when a realm holds 80 % of the land
  • If your fortress falls, you are out and your land goes to whoever took it. Fortresses are safe for a short time at the start
  • Nine buildings. New: Barracks, Treasury, Rampart, Abbey. The build menu is always visible
  • A banner marks your own fortress, and the arrows at the front show at every zoom
  • Several worlds run side by side; one button, Play, finds yours
  • Riders carry your banner to the front while a wave runs (a test)

T1

The globe

The first test build of the Realms mode.

  • A real globe instead of a flat map: drag to turn, wheel to zoom
  • Waves push a broad front
  • Fog of war: enemy realms glow through it
  • Start pick on a map sketch, 20 seconds
  • Gold, six buildings and a fortress for everyone
